ABOUT
ME

Hi, I'm Katie.
I decided to stay close to home for college because Queens provided both outstanding academics through their Communications department and an opportunity to play Division II Lacrosse at a high level. I am a three-year starter, two-time Team Captain and have been a part of two (so far!) NCAA Tournament runs for the Queens University of Charlotte Women’s Lacrosse Team!

I’ve developed skills as a scholarship athlete that will benefit my employer once I hang up my cleats. The ability to work effectively in teams, to give and take feedback, lead others, succeed under pressure, overcome adversity and successfully navigate the competing priorities that come with being a “student / athlete” are all areas of mastery I’ve developed over the last 3+ seasons.
Summer of my junior year I did a mini study abroad in Australia. We spent time in Sydney, Australia attending the Vivid Sydney festival. It is an international festival celebrating music, art, and innovative ideas. We also traveled to the Blue Mountains in Katoomba, Australia where we explored the culture of the Aboriginal Australians. Spending time studying in a foreign country allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture and gain different perspectives of the world.
In addition to my athletic commitments, I was able to incorporate amazing internship opportunities with two landmark Charlotte-based employers: Compass Group and The Ryan Seacrest Foundation (Seacrest Studios). For two summers I was a part of the Compass Creative Development Team, supporting the sales team by researching prospects prior to outreach, providing customized collateral material and tailoring responses to proposal requests. At the Ryan Seacrest Foundation within Seacrest Studios I worked as a production intern for two semesters. I developed program content and delivered the program as the on-air personality to more than 200+ patients and families while gaining valuable experience using the professional radio and TV broadcasting equipment in Levine Children’s Hospital. The most rewarding part of this internship was bringing smiles to patients’ faces during their stay at LCH in Charlotte, NC. We don’t realize how often we take our health for granted; this internship was an eye opening experience that I will never forget.
I wanted to pursue a minor in Spanish because it is one of the most popular languages in the United States. Also, developing a specialization in a foreign language allows me to diversify and expand my Communication studies. During my time at Queens, I was able to have three works of mine published. The first was within a journal that is comprised of Queens Foreign Language Students who write various stories that are worthy of publication. My last two pieces were published in the Qué Pasa Mi Gente Charlotte Newspaper. I interviewed the Carolina Panthers Spanish Radio Network on their involvement in the Latino community here and Charlotte, and members of the Queens Men’s Soccer Team for their NCAA appearance in Fall 2018. I have a passion for sports because I have grown up with them my whole life through recreational leagues to college athletics.
I have a passion for helping others, embracing our differences and trying to see the world in a more positive light. The thing that helps me most with that is anything Disney. Whether it’s the parks, musicals, the classics or just watching cool videos online—it’s an outlet that allows me to be creative and innovative in our fast-paced world, and let’s face it, everyone loves to have the imagination of a kid!
